1. Initial consult: this includes introductions, review of services provided and agreement, and answering questions.
2. Prenatal visits: two visits will be scheduled before your due date. During these visits, we will discuss your birth plans and I will provide information related to labor and childbirth.
3. Prenatal support: unlimited phone and email consultation will be available during your pregnancy.
4. Labor support: doula services may begin in your home, if desired, and will continue at the hospital for the duration of your labor until 1-2 hours after the birth of your baby.
5. Postpartum visit: this is a good time to discuss your birth and address any breastfeeding or infant care questions you may have.
As your doula, I will:
- support the decisions you make as a couple about your birth.
- suggest positions, comfort methods and techniques to help the progress of labor.
- answer questions or help you get your questions answered.
- provide emotional support and encouragement to you and your partner.
- help you stay as close as possible to your birth plan.
- assist with initial breastfeeding, if desired.
As your doula, I will not:
- perform clinical tasks, such as measure blood pressure or fetal heart tones and conduct vaginal exams. I am not a primary healthcare provider.
- make decisions for you.
- speak to staff regarding matters where decisions are being made.
- take over the birth partners role of primary support, unless the partner is absent or chooses not to participate in this way.
